Introduction
"Micro Teaching is a training technique which requires student teachers to teach a single concept using specified teaching skill to a small number of people in a short duration of time" by B.K. Passi and Lalita. for this purpose Saint Xaviers College of Education has been conducted 3 days of microteaching seminar on 17th to 19th July 2017. it is considered to be a most important seminar of the B.Ed. course. it creates a teaching environment during the seminar to develop teaching skills. it also gives a teaching experience through practice sessions. the aim of the macro teaching course is to make a teacher effective, innovative and well grounded in social values.
Description:
the macro teaching program was kicked off by Deep Kumar. he was the master of ceremony of the day. in the first session Dr. Mrs. Madhu Singh introduced Micro teaching and its importance in teaching. father Victor SJ then had dealt with specific objectives in lesson plan. As the topic developed father Victor touched the meaning and characteristic of specific objectives. he emphasized on written objectives for students by a teacher. in the afternoon session Miss Sapna Suman through PowerPoint conducted a session on "set induction" by projecting images, She explain how to "set induction". she also dealt with their meaning and purpose of set induction. in the last session of the first day we had a practice of specific objectives and presented presented it among the groups.
the second day of seminar doctor miss Shobha who was the master of ceremony. Mrs Madhu conducted the first session on "bloom's taxonomy" of educational objectives. she by using images of great people and made a connection with the three domains of learning. after that father Thomas our principal gave a session on "questioning techniques" and its benefits. he also explain how to prepare questions of different levels. he summarised the whole session in one sentence "how to question and what to question".
the third day of microteaching Dr. Nivedita Raj was the master of ceremony. the first session of the day was dealt with the topic of "stimulus variation" by Sujata Kumari. soon after this Smitha Paschal explained the effect of "reinforcement"and use of this teaching skills. Sir Vikramjeet Singh then develop the next topic "audio visual AIDS". this aid is more effective in teaching. he emphasized on its use and purpose in Today's education. after which Dr Nimisha Srivastava took a session on use of "black board" explain the use and components of the skill of use of blackboard. she also spoke about the blackboard effect and advantages. the last and most attractive session was conducted by Vijay Shree ma'am on the topic of "closure". she gave a guideline how to close the lessons.
at the end of the 3rd day seminar father Thomas Expressed the vote of thanks to teaching and non teaching staff and all the students for their supports and cooperations. Thus, the three days of micro teaching seminar comes to an end.
Reflection:
this micro teaching seminar helped me to understand the effectiveness and usefulness of teaching skills. it is about teaching skill and a student centred teaching method. It also considered objectives of teaching which is achieved during teaching. it also considers the interest of students previous knowledge and their Holistic development. in short micro teaching will guide me to be an effective leader and a teacher.
Conclusion:
the 3 days of micro teaching seminar has been a useful, effective, learning and informative course to me. it has surely broaden my Limited knowledge about teaching. it also help me to understand the role of a teacher in education. I am really happy to attend this course. this course has taught me a lot especially in the planning aspect. At the end, I would like to end it with Socrates quote "an unexamined life is not worth living" similarly an unplanned teaching is not worth teaching.
